Why a Social Media Strategy is so Important

4.2 Billion. That’s how many people there are on social media. What’s more, 44.8% of these people use social media to research a brand. This means that a significant portion of your audience expects you to be on social media. ‘Be’ in this case refers to you having an active social media presence, not having a most recent post dated March 2017.

However, building an online presence does not mean blasting every available platform with content. The average feed is already saturated with content and internet users are quickly growing immune to posts that do not interest them.

People everywhere - not just social media users - hate self-promotion and they hate being sold to. They want to make up their minds in their own time so your presence online should serve to show them how your brand can solve their problems. In order to do this, you need to take time to know who your audience is, where they hang out, what kind of content they’re consuming, and how to deliver it to them.

According to Hootsuite, the smartest brands will understand where they fit into customers’ lives on social media and they’ll find creative ways of fitting into the conversation instead of trying to lead it.

This is something that a professional social media manager will help you do. They’ll develop and implement a strategy that maximises your brand’s exposure and they’ll also help you build a strong presence wherever your audience happens to be.
